For
the third year in a row, JUSD’s Student Youth Court earned tickets to attend WE
Day as part of the WE Schools program. WE Day tickets can’t be
bought. Students earn their way by taking one local and one global action
through WE Schools.
Student Youth Court earns tickets through their
service to the community and the commitment to promote education globally and
improve the community locally through acts of volunteerism. This year’s
WE Day was held on April 19, 2018, at the Inglewood Forum. The master of
ceremonies for the event was actor John Stamos. Students were treated to
celebrity appearances by Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Super Woman, Selena
Gomez, Henry Winkler, Cindy Lauper, Morgan Freeman, and many others.
Throughout the day, students learned about the power of WE and what other youth
are doing to impact change. Student Youth Court attendees included
students from Rubidoux High School, Patriot High School, Jurupa Valley High
School, and Jurupa Middle School. The WE Schools curriculum is used as
part of the leadership and social change component of Student Youth
Court.
The 2018 WE Day California event will be broadcast on August 17,
2018, on ABC.
