The mission of the Education-Information Technology department is to create learning environments that mirror students' daily lives and the reality of their futures. We believe that schools must address the challenges of today and align with what students need to know in the 21st Century. Today's workplace demands not only digital skills but also the ability to work collaboratively and creatively and engage in independent research - all skills that are enabled and enhanced by technology.
Jurupa Unified has launched a Digital Gateway initiative, meaning the district will equip each student in grades 2-12 with a Chromebook to take to and from school. Each Chromebook will be monitored and filtered to protect students while online.
Digital Gateway will:
-
Increase student engagement and productivity through personalized learning and equal access to technology.
-
Extend and expand learning beyond the school day – anytime, anywhere learning 365 days a year, 24/7.
-
Provide all students with 21st-century tools and relevant learning experiences.
-
Increase 21st-century skill development in collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, digital literacy, and global awareness.
Digital Gateway is funded by short-term financing proceeds from Measure EE, the facilities bond that district voters approved in November 2014. The bond costs related to the Chromebooks will be fully paid during the life of the devices. Students in grades 2-12 received devices at the start of the 2016-17 school year.
Instructional Technology to support the Digital Gateway is strategically designed to meet the needs of the learner, build teacher capacity, empower teachers and allow teachers to learn at their own pace. Teachers are encouraged to Creating a Personal Learning Network (PLN) to help you to stay connected. TechFest and Summerjam are events designed to provide opportunities for teachers and staff to build a Personal Learning Network (PLN).
