Rustic Lane Elementary Modernization and Interim Site at Pacific Avenue Academy of Music FAQs
The Jurupa Unified Governing Board recently made the decision to move Rustic Lane students onto the Pacific Avenue Academy of Music campus for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years while Rustic Lane is being modernized. This option will provide the most efficient timeline, the least disruption to learning, and the highest level of student safety.
Both schools will remain independent with their own cultures, staff, and traditions. Rustic Lane students will be housed in portable classrooms and a small number of vacant classrooms on the PAAM campus during the construction period.
We understand that this unique campus situation may cause some to have questions. We have prepared the following FAQs to address some of those, and will add to this page as new questions and answers arise.
Rustic Lane was built in 1958 and is in need of extensive modernization. After reviewing multiple options, the Board of Education opted to temporarily move Rustic Lane students to the PAAM campus for the construction period. This option provides the most efficient timeline, ensures the highest level of student safety by eliminating on-site construction hazards, and minimizes long-term instructional disruptions.
The move also offers some opportunities for shared activities and events, enhancing the school experience for both PAAM and Rustic Lane students.
No. Rustic Lane students will remain Rustic Lane students. The school will be housed in portable classrooms and will maintain its own staff, cultures, and traditions.
While the two schools will occupy the same campus, they will not be in the same classrooms. Rustic Lane students will be in portable classrooms. While some common spaces may be shared (the cafeteria and library, for example), schedules will be adjusted to accommodate each school’s unique programming. Preschool classes will be moved to another site, as detailed below:
| Class |

No, because both school communities, including teachers, office and support staff, as well as administration, will be temporarily on the same campus, Rustic Lane students will continue to be in class with Rustic Lane teachers, and PAAM students will be with PAAM teachers.
PAAM students with an IEP will continue to receive services in accordance with their IEP goals and supports. For most students, this will continue to happen at PAAM with the support of Education Specialists and paraprofessionals. PAAM SDC Preschool classes will be at Glen Avon Elementary School.
At Rustic Lane, some grading will begin on the corner of Rathke and Golden West in April, 2026. Full construction is expected to begin in June 2026. It is anticipated that the project will be completed in July 2028.
At PAAM, crews will work to connect utilities and prepare the blacktop and playground area to ready them for additional portables. Portables for Rustic Lane students will be installed once school is out in June.
With an enrollment of 342 students, PAAM is one of our smallest schools and with the additional portable classrooms has the capacity to accommodate the additional students from Rustic Lane. We do understand that the additional students will create a different environment temporarily, but we are working to anticipate and mitigate any issues before they arise.
There will be some shared spaces, and we are planning on how to ensure those can best accommodate students from both schools. For example:
Library – Time will be shared. To ensure all students have adequate books, additional library books will be temporarily added to PAAM’s library collection.
Playground/PE – Outdoor spaces, including fields and courts, will be shared. Strategies to manage this include organizing activities by grade level or staggering recess and PE times.
Restrooms – Additional restroom facilities will be brought in to accommodate the larger campus population.
Lunch – As with other schools of this size, staggered lunch shifts will be used to ensure the cafeteria runs smoothly.
Both schools will maintain their own office staff and independent phone lines. PAAM visitors will have no change to their office location and protocols. For Rustic Lane visitors’ convenience, a dedicated entrance will be available at the back of the school campus, accessible via a separate entrance.
There will be more students and staff on campus. However, times for recess and lunch will be staggered to allow for all students to have enough room to run and play at recess and lunch, as well as enough room for safe paths of travel in the hallways to and from various places on campus. Additionally, the supervision staff and administration from both schools will be on campus throughout this time. This additional supervision will help students to play safely during their recess times.
The Preschool classes currently offered at PAAM will be moved to another elementary school in the area that has the facilities necessary to meet Federal and state preschool requirements.
Not at all. We understand that unique music education and performance opportunities are important to PAAM families, and those programs will continue to be offered.
It is likely that traffic will be impacted. However, staggered times for the start and end of the school day for the two schools will mitigate the impact. With more cars in the area around drop-off and pick-up times, it will be even more important that families and neighbors in the community drive safely and follow all traffic laws in the area near the school.
To mitigate traffic and parking issues, we will be taking the following steps:
- Staggered start and dismissal times
- Increased parking: The district has coordinated with a neighboring church for use of their parking lot to provide additional parking for staff and visitors.
Students residing more than two miles from PAAM will be eligible for transportation services. Those residing within or less than two miles will be designated as walkers. We will have crossing guards at strategic points along the walking route to ensure safety.
Yes. We are not reducing staffing; all personnel – including activity supervisors, health aides, office and custodial staff, and crossing guards – will transition to the PAAM campus. This allows us to strategically deploy more team members to ensure effective supervision and safety.
In 2024, Jurupa Valley voters passed the Measure V facilities bond. Bond monies can only be used for capital improvement projects, like modernizing our schools. Rustic Lane is the first school modernization project to be undertaken with Measure V funds. You can learn more about Measure V and how those funds are used to improve school facilities here.
Both PAAM and Rustic Lane students can participate in the Next Level Summer program at West Riverside Elementary. Transportation will be provided. PAAM and Rustic Lane students can attend Ready, Set, Go! at PAAM.
