Hot Weather Guidelines and Air Quality Index (AQI)

Extreme Weather Protocols

The Jurupa Unified School District has established extreme weather protocols in accordance with California Education Code § 33355. These protocols are in place to help guide decisions when weather conditions, such as extreme heat or poor air quality, may impact outdoor student activities, including but not limited to physical education, recess, lunch periods involving outdoor supervision, conditioning, intramural activities, outdoor assemblies, after-school programs, other school-sponsored outdoor activities, and interscholastic athletics.

All Jurupa Unified School District schools use local Perry Weather stations to monitor weather forecasts, alerts, and local extreme weather conditions. Local weather conditions will be monitored and, when necessary, outdoor student activities may be modified, moved indoors, rescheduled, limited, or cancelled. Families will be notified via ParentSquare if changes to outdoor activities are needed.

Hot Weather Guidelines

With higher temperatures and extreme heat conditions occurring more often, all sites in the Jurupa Unified School District have plans in place for the continued operation of schools during periods of extreme weather conditions. Each school has identified age-appropriate indoor alternatives that can be safely conducted during extreme weather conditions to prevent heat-related illness so that student learning can continue.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has updated its guidance for schools on sports and strenuous outdoor activities during extreme heat.
