An Important Message from JUSD

JUSD families:

Jurupa Unified remains committed to providing safe and supportive learning environments where students feel welcome and included. We understand that recent immigration enforcement activity across the country may make some of our families feel worried or concerned.  We will continue to keep you informed of any issues directly affecting our campuses. If we receive confirmation that immigration officials are on our campuses, we will notify the school community immediately. (Please note this would only include verified information and not unverified social media posts, rumors of such activity, or activity not on a school campus.)

Please know that JUSD does not ask for or maintain immigration records for our students, and we have policies in place to protect students. JUSD Board policy – and California state laws – protect students while they are at school. District staff have been trained on protocols that will be used if an immigration officer attempts to access information, interview, or detain a student, or serve a warrant at one of our schools.

Immigration officials have limited access to campuses without a valid judicial warrant, subpoena, or court order. Officers requesting to interview, search, or detain students for the purpose of investigation must have parental consent, unless they present a valid court order or judicial warrant, or in cases involving investigations of child abuse, neglect, or dependency.

School records, including those related to immigration, may not be released without a valid warrant, court order, or parental consent.  Parents must be notified of any such record requests.

You can find more information and resources on our website at this link.  We are here to support our families and ensure welcoming spaces for our students. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s school.
