Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

JUSD PBIS Mission Statement

At JUSD, our mission is to empower our community through leadership that values equity and fosters a culture of learning. We are dedicated to delivering essential support and resources, utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to create an inclusive environment where every learner can LEVEL UP!

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework designed to enhance the use of evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies across a multi-tiered system. This approach supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of all students. The multi-tiered system consists of three levels of support intensity—Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3—each with carefully selected evidence-based practices tailored to the specific needs of students and their local cultural context. Over 20 years of research show that when PBIS is implemented with fidelity, schools can expect the following outcomes:
  • More positive, proactive, and less reactive, aversive, and dangerous learning environments
  • Learning environments that are more engaging, preventative, responsive, and productive
  • Improvements in classroom management and discipline
  • Enhanced support for students requiring specialized assistance (e.g., those with emotional and behavioral disorders or mental health needs)
  • Increased academic engagement and achievement for all students.
