Letter from Superintendent, Elliott Duchon

March 13, 2020

Good Morning JUSD Staff, Families and Community:

Jurupa Unified is closely monitoring and evaluating current information available on the Coronavirus (COVID-19). As school district employees and members of the community, we understand the importance of taking appropriate measures to do our part in controlling and containing this virus.  We are working hard to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.

Effective immediately, and until further notice, the following guidelines will be implemented to protect our children, our employees and the community at large:

Canceled Events (New additions to the list are in bold and listed first)

  • All large-scale events in excess of 250 people (number reduced from 300)
  • All field trips
  • All athletic events vs. other schools
  • All performances
  • JUSD Employee of the Year Celebration
  • All rallies
  • All movie nights
Elementary awards ceremonies

In addition, JUSD is also restricting visitors to our schools, including parent and community volunteers.

We will continue to evaluate upcoming events daily to determine if the event will proceed as planned or if it will be canceled. Regular updates will be provided on our website at Coronavirus: LatesNews.

Jurupa Unified has been in close communications with the Riverside University Health-System-Public Health (County), which is the lead agency in disseminating information to the public county-wide. As a district, we are considering ALL options in protecting those we serve.   In the future, it may be necessary to close some or all of our schools, and we want our families to know that we will do WHATEVER is necessary to protect those entrusted to our care.  Please continue to monitor our communications as we provide updates when new information becomes available.

Last week, we communicated that every classroom districtwide is being equipped with hand sanitizer to protect our students and staff.  The order was placed weeks ago as we prepared to install in every classroom, multi-purpose room, cafeteria, library, and office.  Unfortunately, as many have experienced, our supplier was unable to meet the demand of all currently in need.  It is later than anticipated, but rest assured that be the end of the day, all classrooms districtwide will have sanitizer.

JUSD recognizes the difficult circumstances the decisions to cancel events place on our students, staff and families. It is necessary for us to be responsible global citizens and do our part to prevent the spread of this contagious disease and to protect all members of the Jurupa community.  Thank you for your continued understanding and support of our schools.

Sincerely,
Elliott Duchon
