Letter from the Superintendent

Letter from the Superintendent

September 14, 2020

To my Jurupa Family, Friends and Colleagues:

Almost to the day, forty-three years ago I walked into my first classroom as a Classified Preschool teacher at Van Buren school. Like someone out for a Sunday drive I really had no idea where I was going other than around the next curve. Somehow, with all the twists and turns that journey landed me about half a mile away. That job turned into a profession, that profession into a calling. I could not be prouder, more honored, or more privileged than to serve the children of Jurupa Unified School District. I could not be more grateful to the Board and all those who have employed me along the way to have afforded me the opportunities to serve as a Classified Employee, Certificated Employee, Classified Manager and Certificated Manager. It is beyond a dream. Thank you to every single person I have met on this road.

Just as when I started, I look forward to what lies beyond the next curve in this road. Pedal to the metal, who knows what lies ahead.  Today, I am formally announcing that I will retire at the end of the school year. The Jurupa Board has had the insight and forethought to appoint my successor with ample time to assure a smooth transition. Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Dr. Trenton Hansen as the seventh Superintendent of Jurupa Unified School District since it was formed in 1963. Dr. Hansen started as a teacher and has served in several administrative roles in Jurupa. He has been appointed to serve as Deputy Superintendent until my retirement and will become Superintendent then.  He will do an extraordinary job and carry on the valuable traditions and stability of Jurupa.

With fondest regards,

Elliott
