A Wave of Renovation

For JUSD Maintenance & Operations staff, school holidays are a time for digging in, not kicking back.

Over the recent winter break, crews were hard at work modernizing, enhancing, fortifying, beautifying, and generally elevating facilities districtwide.

From fresh technology to tighter security to new playgrounds and refurbished classrooms, the upgrades reflect a promise kept to the Jurupa community: Measure EE, the bond measure approved by local voters in 2014, has delivered a wave of renovation.

The district has improved security at all JUSD schools, refurbished older schools, and installed cutting-edge, hands-on facilities that prepare every Jurupa student for college, careers and learning without limits for a lifetime.

Dr. Trenton Hansen, the district's Assistant Superintendent for Organizational Leadership and Planning, explains more in the following open letter adapted from the winter issue of the JUSD Planning & Development newsletter:

Dear Jurupa Community,

The Maintenance & Operations team continued to make upgrades throughout JUSD during winter break.  Our district staff replaced concrete, upgraded landscape and irrigation systems, installed security perimeter fencing and closed out several work orders.  Multiple sites had HVAC systems replaced, portables relocated, and classrooms remodeled.  The Planning & Development Department has been busy with a broad range of projects as Measure EE renovations continue to impress JUSD's parents/guardians, students, staff, and the surrounding community.

At Rubidoux High School, the Track & Turf Replacement Project is now complete. Ryan Bailey, English teacher and Video Production Director at Rubidoux High School, captured an aerial image of the new track and turf (see photo nearby).  In addition, Ina Arbuckle Elementary School's playground was replaced after recent vandalism.  Thanks to added security coverage, JUSD was able to apprehend those involved.  The new playground was ready for use when students returned to campus in January.

On Jan. 24, the West Riverside Dragons said “hello" to 10 new classrooms and a new main office.  The new library and outdoor amphitheater will be the next space available for our students.  In addition, new playground equipment was installed – to the delight of students and staff alike.  Glen Avon Elementary School's Modernization Project is well underway, and progress has been exciting for the entire community.  Both West Riverside and Glen Avon's Modernization projects were funded by Measure EE and completion dates are estimated for summer 2020 and spring 2021, respectively.

Meanwhile, upcoming Measure EE projects include the Pedley Elementary Portable Project, targeted for completion in August 2020.  Ina Arbuckle's Modernization Project is receiving some finishing touches, including a new Head Start playground where the estimated completion date is March 2020.  Troth Street Elementary renovations, Jurupa Middle School improvements, and Rubidoux High School's concert hall are in the design phase.  These necessary projects will bring vibrancy, color, and updated design to optimize learning for our students.

We are extremely proud of our Maintenance & Operations employees who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our students and staff have the best learning environments possible.  Additionally, we sincerely thank our wonderful school employees and district support staff for being patient while we complete our numerous projects districtwide.

We appreciate our students and families; by supporting Measure EE, they provided the necessary resources to update our schools, classrooms, grounds and Career Technical Education facilities.  Our community has joined Jurupa Unified in creating optimal learning environments where our students can thrive and learn without limits.  Although we have completed many projects with Measure EE, there are still a number of upgrades needed in our local schools.  Please visit https://jurupausd.org/potentialmeasure for more information about JUSD's School Facilities Improvement Bond (Measure E) on the March 2020 ballot.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hansen and Staff
