Welcome to Special Education Transportation!

Jurupa Unified School District's Transportation and Special Education Departments work together to provide safe, reliable transportation services to our students.
All transportation determinations are made by the JUSD Special Education Department.

Your Child's Schedule

A few days prior to the start of school, you will be contacted via phone by the transportation department with your child’s bus stop location, as well as pick-up and drop-off times.

Schedule Changes

There may be times during the year when your child’s schedule is changed. This may be to accommodate new students or because of a change of placement for your own child. Parents and guardians will be contacted the day before any permanent changes are made.

Attendance Policy

Please notify the transportation department if your child will not require transportation for any period of time. In the event a student is absent without prior notification to the transportation department for 3 or more consecutive days, transportation services will be discontinued until notification to resume services has been received from the parent or guardian.

Equipment

If your student requires any specialized equipment, the transportation department will verify this with you when you are contacted with initial transportation information. Car seats and safety vests for students that require them will be provided by the district.

Requirements for loading and transporting students in wheelchairs:

  • Wheelchair must be equipped with a lapbelt.
  • Wheelchair brakes must work properly.
  • Wheelchair must be powered down for loading and unloading.

Pick-Up Procedures

Your child’s bus will only stop at their designated bus stop. Please have your child wait for the bus in a safe location and be ready to board the bus at their designated time. Drivers are not permitted to honk at bus stops. Please note, there is no minimum wait time at stops.

Drop-Off Procedures

Prior to your student being released, the bus driver will bring the bus to a complete stop, set the parking brake, secure the bus, activate the red crossover lights, and open the door when it is safe to do so.

Some students must be released directly to an authorized adult at their stop. Requirements vary based on grade and program. Please see below:

  • Pre-K through 1st grade: Must be met by a parent, guardian, or other adult over the age of 18 listed on the emergency card at the school site. No waivers.
  • 2nd grade (age 7) through 6th grade: Must be met by a parent, guardian, or other adult over 18 listed on the emergency card. To be self-released, a signed and approved waiver must be on file with Special Education and Transportation.
  • 7th grade and up: Unless otherwise indicated by the special education department, all students are self-released.
  • RCOE Special Education Programs: All students must be met by a parent, guardian, or other adult over 18 listed on the emergency card. To be self-released, a signed and approved waiver must be on file with the school site and the special education and transportation departments.
