JUSD California Young Reader Medal Program

Jurupa Unified School District is excited to be participating in the statewide California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program. Through teachers and librarians, students nominate their favorite book(s) for each of the CYRM nominee categories; Primary (K-2), Intermediate (3rd - 5th/6th grade), Picture Books for Older Readers (all ages), Middle School (6th/7th - 8th grades), and Young Adult (9th - 12th grades). The program is sponsored by the California Reading Association, California School Library Association, California Association of Teachers of English, and the California Library Association

Once the nominee list is available, students are encouraged to read all the books in one or more categories and vote on a favorite. Each school's votes are tallied and sent to the District, where all the votes are submitted to the California Young Reader Medal Committee.

It is always fun for the students to learn which books were favorites of students throughout the State of California.
