Young Author 2016 Jayden Luedtke (1).jpg

#ThrowbackMonday to April 30, when a budding writer dazzled a full auditorium with his story, "La Sopresa del Huevo," or "The Surprise Egg."

Jayden Luedtke, a student at Sunnyslope Elementary, presented his tale in Spanish and English at the 5th Annual Riverside Early Literacy Conference at Riverside City College.  He was the only child author invited to share his work at the convention.

Jayden poured his personality into the story while on stage, using photos in a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate his narrative, said John Allen, Coordinator of Professional Development for JUSD.  "The story was well put together with a plot and surprise; it had a real twist to it."

The young writer recently completed third grade with Mrs. Yolanda Corona in the Dual Immersion program at Sunnyslope.  His original story, which he hatched for a class project, earned the Stella Leonard Achievement Award at the conference.

"Presenting the story was an honor for Jayden and a real privilege and very much a rare opportunity," Mr. Allen said, "given that all the other presenters that day were adults addressing parents, teachers and faculty."

Congratulations and buen trabajo, Jayden!
