Congratulations to our teachers, staff and students for a March 2016 District of Distinction Award! The national publication District Administration Magazine has honored Jurupa Unified for creating a positive school climate that supports academic and behavioral success.
The program, called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support or PBIS, teaches students social skills that help prevent disciplinary issues, outbursts, strife, and disruptive behavior both on and off campus. Hundreds of JUSD staff have excelled in implementing the program, which has reduced defiance suspensions by about 75% since the 2012-13 school year.
Thanks to PBIS, positive messages and clear expectations are posted throughout our schools, and students have become aware of their conduct and learned how they can control their own behavioral outcomes.
District of Distinction is the fourth award JUSD has received under the PBIS umbrella. It follows a Models of Excellence Award from the Riverside County Office of Education in 2015, a Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association in 2015, and JUSD designation as a model of attendance improvement and dropout prevention in 2014-15 by the State School Attendance Review Board.
Nice work, teachers, staff and students! It is great to see your hard work and success recognized again.
