At their meeting on Monday, October 14, members of the Jurupa Unified School District Board of Education voted to initiate a provisional appointment process to fill a vacancy left by Trustee Robert Garcia, who resigned from the Board effective October 11, 2024.

Mr. Garcia served on the Board of Education since 2014. His term was due to expire in 2026. The individual appointed to fill the vacant Trustee Area 1 seat will finish the remainder of the term.  The application for the open Board seat is available online at https://bit.ly/JUSDprovisionalappt  or may be picked up in person at the Jurupa Unified School District’s Education Center, 4850 Pedley Road in Jurupa Valley.

Applications will be accepted through October 28. An ad hoc committee consisting of two Board trustees will screen the applications to determine qualified candidates. Qualified candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Education at the November 4 meeting.

“The Board of Education thanks Mr. Garcia for his service, leadership, and mentorship,” stated Board President Joseph Navarro. “Mr. Garcia’s dedication to ensuring that Jurupa Unified provides the very best educational experience for all students has made a lasting, positive impact. We wish him the very best.”

“We are grateful to Mr. Garcia for his decade of service to the students, staff, and families of Jurupa Unified and the Jurupa Valley community at large,” stated JUSD Superintendent, Dr. Trenton Hansen. “Mr. Garcia’s advocacy and dedication to our district helped us to realize the implementation of our Vision for the Future strategic plan. He also supported the development of numerous academic programs and systems of support designed to help every child succeed. Mr. Garcia’s kindness, leadership, and commitment to providing Learning Without Limits for every student will last for many generations to come.”
