​​Parent Involvement and Community Outreach Staff

​Director of Parent Involvement & Community Outreach: Jose Campos    ​   ​​  ​​Jose Campos serves as Director of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach/ Behavioral Health "PICO" for the Jurupa Unified School District.  In this capacity, he works with several non-profits and public agencies coordinating and expanding services throughout the community.  These services include mental health, medical access and coverage, early childhood programs, case management services, and various parent engagement and parenting programs.  In 2012 he co-founded the Jurupa Valley Collaborative (a 2015 Riverside County Office of Education Models of Academic Excellence and Innovation program) to better coordinate services in school communities and in 2013 was instrumental in opening the school district's first school-based health center operated by Borrego Health.  He continues to work towards expanding health and dental services in the area as well as focus on increasing opportunities and education in the school communities.  By 2019 access to mental health services for Jurupa students increased 1600% from being scarce to increasing funding for providers and partnering with providers for school-based services as well as launching a master level intern-based program. In 2020 JUSD became a contract mental health provider for Riverside University Health System - Behavioral Health adding to the menu of direct service provide by PICO.  PICO receives over $3,000,000 annually in grants and contracts to provide services to the community from two locations.

Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor: Crystal Garcia Ruacho
Crystal Garcia Ruacho is the Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor for Jurupa Unified School District, Behavioral Health Services. Crystal is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), with experience providing psychotherapy services in school, outpatient, and home-based settings. She received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she double majored in Psychology and Latin American and Latino Studies. She then pursued her graduate degree at San Jose State University, where she earned her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and gained practice working in adult residential substance abuse programs and Santa Clara County Mental Health Outpatient Services. Since then, Crystal has spent time working with children and families through San Bernardino County’s Behavioral Health Department, as well as school-based mental health services with Ontario-Montclair School District. Crystal is currently providing oversight to Jurupa Unified School District’s System of Care (SOC) contracts with Riverside University Health Systems (RUHS). Programs include Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) and Early Periodic Screening Diagnostic Treatment (EPSDT), providing trauma-focused groups for students in the CBIT’s program, as well as psychotherapy/counseling services to eligible students and Jurupa Valley community members. In addition, Crystal provides clinical supervision to JUSD’s pre-licensed associate social workers and marriage and family therapist, as well as oversees and provides field instruction to social work master’s level interns providing mental health services through the Student Assistance Program (SAP).​​​  

Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor: Laisa Jamison                         ​Laisa Jamison is the Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor for Jurupa Unified School District, Behavioral Health Services. Laisa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), with experience providing intensive case management and psychotherapy services in community-based organizations, schools and home-based settings. She is also experienced in providing trainings and oversight to various mental health programs in community-based settings. She received her Bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly Pomona in Sociology with an emphasizes in Social Work. She then pursued her graduate degree at Loma Linda University, where she earned her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and gained practice working in at various children community based programs within San Bernardino County. Since then, Laisa has spent time working with children and families through San Bernardino County’s Department of Behavioral Health Department. Laisa is currently providing oversight to Jurupa Unified School District’s System of Care (SOC) contracts with Riverside University Health Systems (RUHS). Social Worker- Community Based Services: Christopher Mercado    Christopher Mercado serves as a Social Worker for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach (P.I.C.O) at Jurupa Unified School District. He studied at CSUSB where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He continued his education at the University of Southern California where he earned his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. During his internship, he was placed at Kaiser Permanente where he served the geriatric population. Chris gained practice in conducting bio-psycho-social assessment's, discharge planning and assessed for memory and cognition at the geriatric clinic. Upon graduating, Chris started his career at Riverside County DPSS as an In-Home-Support-Service (IHSS) social service practitioner where he assessed client's abilities, limitations and assigned appropriate hours needed to best fit the client's needs. Moving forward, Chris will support community outreach, parenting programs at JUSD, and will supervise MSW intern's.  ​​

​Coordinator of Community Schools: Dr. Shayna Golbaf                                  I'm thrilled to join the Jurupa Unified School District as your new Coordinator for Community Schools! With a background in educational leadership and community engagement, I've served in various roles from teacher to program specialist for Special Ed,  and most recently, principal of a school that transitioned into a community school two years ago in Upland. I have experience with initiatives aligned with the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) Grant, along with Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS), restorative justice practices, and trauma-informed interventions, has been a significant part of my journey.​

My passion led me to a doctoral study on international engagement in education and connected me to over 40 countries, deepening my understanding of the critical connection between schools and communities. I'm inspired by Jurupa's commitment to "Learning without Limits" and building engaging learning environments and addressing barriers to learning through community partnerships. Looking forward to collaborating with all of you and making a positive impact together!

​Behavioral Health Therapist I: Lizet Rios​                                                 Lizet Rios is a Behavioral Therapist for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach. She studied at California State University, San Bernardino where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and received a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She continued her education at the University of Southern California where she earned her Master of Social Work degree. Currently, Lizet supports the following programs: Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPDST), ​Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Parents as Teachers (PAT) and 2nd year MSW intern field placement.

​Behavioral Health Therapist I: Jacob Escobedo

Jacob Escobedo,MSW, ASW is a California Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social work from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Master of Arts in Social Work with a concentration in Clinical Practice with Individuals and Families from Azusa Pacific University. Jacob has experience providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy and case management services to adolescent and adult populations. Jacob has experience with providing clinical social work services in outpatient counseling settings and juvenile justice settings. Jacob is a Behavioral Health Therapist for the department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach(PICO) and primarily supports JUSD’s Early Periodic Screening Diagnostic Treatment (EPSDT) Program, JUSD’s Student Assistance Program (SAP), trauma informed and social -emotional groups, and training for MSW interns. Jacob seeks to facilitate collaboration between behavioral health services, school staff, families, and other systems to support the whole-child approach towards fostering social-emotional wellness and academic success.

Behavioral Health Therapist I: Ana Chagolla                                            Ana Chagolla is a Behavioral Health Therapist I for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach (PICO). She studied at California State University, San Bernardino where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Social Services. Ana then spent her time working as a Behavioral Therapist providing in-home Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) services throughout San Bernardino County. She then continued her education at California State University, San Bernardino where she earned her Master of Social Work degree. She has gained her experience in behavioral and mental health wellness working in school-based mental health services for students in San Bernardino County and continued to gain experience by providing therapeutic services at a mental health clinic within Riverside University Health System (RUHS). Passionate about advocating for mental health services, Ana strives to create meaningful interpersonal relationships with both students and parents in order to foster social and emotional growth and social change in the community. 

Behavioral Health Therapist I: Krystal Sapien                                                  Krystal Sapien, MSW, ASW, is a California Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker. Currently, she is working as a Behavioral Health Therapist I for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach for Jurupa Unified School District. She studied at California State University, San Bernardino where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She continued her education at California Baptist University where she earned a Master of Social Work and at the University of California, Los Angeles where she completed her coursework towards her Pupil Personal Services Credential. Krystal’s passion for working with children and their families have been drawn from her work as a community assistant for the Riverside County office of Education – Head Start program. Krystal has drawn from her experience as an intern providing individual therapy at Val Verde Unified School District where she developed a love for providing evidence-based therapy in hopes of normalizing mental health services

​Behavioral Health Associate: Christiana English                                       ​​Christiana English is a behavioral health associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with multiple subject teaching from Chapman University. She also earned a duel Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Personal Clinical Counseling from Brandman University. She has gained over 3,000 hours of individual therapy and group therapy with adults and children towards licenser. She has worked in many different settings across the mental health aspect including, working in inpatient crisis centers, outpatient mental health clinics, and substance use inpatient treatment facilities with San Bernardino County's Behavioral Health Department.  

​​​Behavioral Health Associate: Elvia Gallo                                                         ​ Elvia Gallo is a Behavioral Health Associate with the Department of Involvement and Community Outreach (P.I.C.O.). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from California State University San Bernardino. Elvia furthered her education at California Baptist University, where she earned a master's degree in social work. Elvia has provided case management and mental health services to children, young adults, and their families to meet their needs. She has previously worked for Riverside City College and the California State University of San Bernardino, providing case management for young adults and their families. She recently worked at Riverside County Department of Social Services Children division as a social work practitioner. At D.P.S.S., she provided families with services and resources to promote the safety and well-being of the children and maintain family unity when possible. Elvia enjoys working with children and their families, providing support and adequate resources, and assisting them to become successful. Elvia has always been passionate about helping others, and she is eager to assist children and their families'  become the better versions of themselves.

Behavioral Health Associate: Veronica Vargas

​Veronica Vargas, AMFT is a Behavioral Health Associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach. Veronica studied at California State University, San Bernardino where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Veronica continued her education at California Baptist University where she earned her Masters of Science in Clinical Counseling. Here at PICO, she has gained experience in both early childhood prevention and intervention programs including home visitation.  Currently, Veronica supports the following programs: Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPDST) and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).​

Behavioral Health Associate: Kaylee Casto                                                    

Kaylee Casto is a Behavioral Health Associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach at Jurupa Unified School District. She is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. Kaylee earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She continued her education at Cal Poly Pomona where she earned a Master of Science degree in Psychology. Kaylee has experience providing group and individual psychotherapy to children and adolescents. ​

​Behavioral Health Associate: Leslie Malvido                                                   Leslie Malvido is a Behavioral Health Associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach at Jurupa Unified School District. Leslie is currently an Associate Clinical Social Worker. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from La Sierra University in 2015 and her Master of Social Work degree from California Baptist University in 2020. Leslie previously provided case management services to families in Riverside County at her previous position with Riverside County Department of Social Services-Children's Services Division. There she was able to provide resources, referrals, and ensure child safety. Leslie is passionate about helping, empowering, and supporting families at JUSD.

​Behavioral Health Associate: Diana Arevalo                                                           My name is Diana Arevalo and I am a Behavioral Health Associate. I received a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. My interest in working with students and families stems from working at the Boys and Girls Club of Redlands for 5 years providing the community with resources. I have experience treating children and adolescents that ranges from depression, anxiety, attachment issues, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and post - traumatic stress disorder in individual or group psychotherapy setting. I chose the mental health field because I believe everyone deserves to be heard, understood, and provided unlimited support. My goal is to continue expanding resources in the mental health community by engaging students and families in a therapeutic journey. I am excited for this opportunity and showing my support in the Jurupa community.

Behavioral Health Associate: Marlyn Vargas                                                            Marlyn Vargas is a behavioral health associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach (P.I.C.O). She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from La Sierra University. She continued her education at Loma Linda University where she earned her master's degree in social work (MSW). During her internship with Kaiser Permanente Psychiatry, she worked with adults. She was able to gain knowledge and experience in conducting assessments, individual therapy, crisis intervention, and running groups. While working on her master's degree she also was able to maintain a Job with Multilingual Social Services as a Home Health Social Worker. She worked with the elderly population and provided case management services for them. Moving Forward, Marlyn will continue with her passion with helping others in hopes of serving the Jurupa Valley community and provide families the support that they deserve and need. ​

Behavioral Health Associate: Marisa Anderson                                                 Marisa Anderson is a Behavioral Health Associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach at Jurupa Unified School District. Marisa studied at California State University, Fullerton where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Child Development. She worked with a non-profit organization for the next five years as an Intake Coordinator supporting families experiencing crises. She then continued her education at California Baptist University where she earned her Master of Social Work Degree and at the University of California, Los Angeles where she received her Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC). Marisa is currently an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW). She is passionate about advocating for others and bringing awareness to mental health. She strives to foster a safe environment within the community for both parents and students to support social and emotional growth. Currently, Marisa supports the following programs: Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) and Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPDST).

Behavioral Health Associate: Miriam Jimenez                                                      ​Miriam Jimenez, MSW, ACSW, PPSC is a California Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker. She is currently a Behavioral Health Associate with the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from California State University of San Bernardino. She later continued her education at California State University of San Bernardino and received her Master of Social Work. She has also received her Pupil Personnel Services Credential from UCLA. Miriam’s experiences range from providing school-based mental health services to working with elder and dependent adults. Her inspiration for working with children and adolescents in a school-based setting stemmed from working with children and families in an environment that provides opportunities for advocacy and breaking barriers. Currently at JUSD, she supports the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).

​Behavioral Health Associate: Joaly Vega Vazquez                                 Joaly Vega Vazquez, MSW, ACSW, PPSC is a Behavioral Health Associate for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach in Jurupa Unified School District. She studied at the University of California, Riverside where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She continued her education at California Baptist University where she earned a Master of Social Work degree.  Joaly then earned her Pupil Personnel Services Credential at the University of California, Los Angeles. Joaly is passionate about providing clinical therapy services to students struggling with mental health needs, empowering families, and creating safe spaces free of stigma. ​

 Behavioral Health Peer Specialist II: Ofir Adams​
Ofir Adams serves as the BHPS II for the department where she provides resources and guidance to families that are in need of emergency services such as; food, clothing, shoes, & housing/shelter. She also provides case management for all Behavioral Health referrals that are received by the department. Ofir has over 12 years of experience in case management from working with AmeriCorps, DPSS LA County, local city governments and non-profit organizations, and she holds a BA in Criminal Justice from California State University, San Bernardino. Her years of experience in working with at-risk youth and families has given her the knowledge to understand the community we live in and how best to support them during their time of need. 

​​​Outreach Worker: Morena Diaz
Morena​​ Diaz has served the Jurupa Unified School District for 18 years as a Translator Clerk-Typist. She started at Stone Avenue Elementary where she made a lot of wonderful friends with the teachers, parents, and staff members. Now as a staff member of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach, she translates print media for the department and has been an interpreter for programs like Protecting Our Youth and others.  She also coordinates registration for the programs her department provides and oversees the Clothing Closet at the TSSC. Most importantly, Morena finds joy in helping the members of her community by addressing their immediate needs and connecting them with valuable resources.​

Administrative Secretary: Alejandra Hernandez                                ​Alejandra Hernandez serves as the Administrative Secretary for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach, where she provides support to the Parents as Teachers program and Behavioral Health Services. Alejandra studied at the University of California Riverside where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with a concentration in linguistics. She then went on to receive her professional community interpreting certificate from Moreno Valley College where she specialized in business, legal, and medical translation and interpretation. After receiving her certificate, she continued her studies once again at the University of California Riverside, where she received her Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration and Policy where her research focused on student services and student development. Alejandra has proudly served the Jurupa Unified School District for three years, helping bridge language barriers and helping build connections between schools and the community. ​

Outreach Worker: Guadalupe Martinez                                                            ​Guadalupe Martinez studied at California State University, Fullerton where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She began her case managing and child development experience in OC United Foster Care program. She then became a co-coordinator for a Community Youth Outreach program where she continues to serve today. Ms. Martinez is currently an outreach worker for the department of Parent Involvement & Community Outreach, where she serves as a bilingual home visitor for the HIPPY program. She also assists in the following programs: ABC music & me, Pre-k STEM, and Dinosaur School.

​ Secretary/ Account Clerk: Norma Fenner                                                                             Norma serves as a Secretary/ Account Clerk for the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach. She became involved working with the community with Claremont University where she became a Lifestyle Coach. She worked with the Diabetes Prevention Program where she coached parents on making healthy choices, encouraging physical fitness and monitoring their sugar levels. Norma has been working with the Department of Parent Involvement and Community Outreach for 6 years. She has assisted with the Harvest of the Month and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Currently Norma, serves in the 0-5 Home Visitation Advisory Committee, Cal Fresh Healthy Living Program and JUSD Wellness Committee. Norma has experience working with families of young children and has provided services through the ParentChild+ Program, First Steps and currently is a Certified Parent Educator for the Parents As Teachers Program. Supporting families and helping their children become successful is what Norma finds rewarding​.

Outreach Worker: Analynn Baptist

 Analynn Baptist, is currently an Outreach Worker for PICO. She began with PICO in November 2018, providing home visitations, co-facilitating monthly parent group meetings, assisting with community events such as food drives, and many other clerical duties and tasks. . Before joining PICO she worked in the medical field as a Licensed Vocational Nurse where she provided skilled nursing care to home-bound patients for 4 years.  She is currently a student at Riverside City College where she is pursuing her education in Early Child Education.

Outreach Worke​r: Michele Rivera                                                                           My name is Michele Rivera and I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University of Fullerton. I’ve had the opportunity to work with students in K-12 grade as a tutor for many years. Before working here I worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove in the Family Youth Outreach program where we would provide counseling, educational classes and other community programs for at risk youth and families. I was also a program coordinator with Think Together at Mira Loma Middle School. I look forward to working with our families. ​​

Translator Clerk-Typist: Jessica Gonzalez Calderon                                                My interest in education began when I was an elementary school student. However, I didn’t commit to that career until later in my life. I received the California State Seal of Biliteracy on my high school diploma. I graduated from Riverside City College receiving 4 associate degrees. In 2017, I started working at JUSD as a Bilingual language tutor and that’s where I discovered my passion for education. I loved helping students learn and seeing them recognize their accomplishments and goals. I fell in love with the Dual Immersion program and it became my goal. Seeing the students mastering two languages was rewarding. I’m currently still in school pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and the multiple subject credential. Throughout my time in the district I’ve been able to help students and parents communicate their concerns and questions where language would have been an extra barrier before. I’m happy to be in a position where I can help our students, staff and community at JUSD.

​Behav​ioral Health Peer Specialist I: Nadia Hernandez                                         Nadia Hernandez is a Behavioral Health Peer Specialist providing services at JVHS through the Parent Involvement & Community Outreach Department. She graduated from California Baptist University with her Bachelor's degree in Nutrition. Previously working as a PAT partner, she saw how the health not only affected the physical aspect of the body but also the mental capacity of a person. Since then, Nadia has maneuvered her career towards mental health and is excited to begin this new journey promoting health, wellness, and a positive outlook into the future for our community. ​

​Outreach Worke​r: Sydney Rodriguez                                                                      ​My name is Sydney Rodriguez and I have a bachelor's degree in Public Policy with a specialization in Social, Cultural, and Family Policy and Policy Institutions and Processes from the University of California, Riverside. I have three years of experience as a Program Leader with Think Together in Moreno Valley, where I worked with students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Additionally, I spent two years volunteering with Public Health Peers at UCR, where I educated and facilitated discussions on COVID-19, as well as physical, mental, and sexual health among the student body. I am thrilled to be part of the PICO/PAT community!
