Mentoring Program

​Fostering student skills to support healthy development

**Currently only offered at Middle and High Schools**

The mentoring program provided by Parent Involvement & Community Outreach is a school-based mentoring program designed to build student assets. The program builds high-quality mentoring connections that result in:

  1. Continuous support, enhancements in academic performance, and a reduction in absenteeism.
  2. ​Promotes a positive school environment, social norms, and reduces high-risk behavior.
  3. Focuses on skill-building interventions that promote healthy youth development.​

Who are Mentors?

Mentors are Master-level social work interns from local universities such as USC, La Sierra, CSU San Bernardino, Cal Baptist University, Arizona State, CSU Fullerton, and Loma Linda with proper clearance and a background check are eligible to be mentors. ​

What is the role of a Mentor?

Mentors offer a stable and caring relationship at school by:

  1. Meeting with a Mentee every week for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Engaging with school faculty and administration, families and community organizers to develop personal relationships and promote resources for the mentee.
  3. Monitor the mentee's academic performance and personal development.
  4. Provide feedback and support through Evidence-Based Intervention Practices.
