Mentoring Program
Fostering student skills to support healthy development
**Currently only offered at Middle and High Schools**
The mentoring program provided by Parent Involvement & Community Outreach is a school-based mentoring program designed to build student assets. The program builds high-quality mentoring connections that result in:
- Continuous support, enhancements in academic performance, and a reduction in absenteeism.
- Promotes a positive school environment, social norms, and reduces high-risk behavior.
- Focuses on skill-building interventions that promote healthy youth development.
Who are Mentors?
Mentors are Master-level social work interns from local universities such as USC, La Sierra, CSU San Bernardino, Cal Baptist University, Arizona State, CSU Fullerton, and Loma Linda with proper clearance and a background check are eligible to be mentors.
What is the role of a Mentor?
Mentors offer a stable and caring relationship at school by:
- Meeting with a Mentee every week for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Engaging with school faculty and administration, families and community organizers to develop personal relationships and promote resources for the mentee.
- Monitor the mentee's academic performance and personal development.
- Provide feedback and support through Evidence-Based Intervention Practices.
