Initial Individual Education Program (IEP) Team Meeting for Private School Students
The initial IEP team meeting will be convened by either the school of residence or the preschool assessment team. If the IEP team determines that a private school child with a disability qualifies for special education services, an IEP will be developed that specifies a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) offer at a public school site.
If the parents of the private school child agree with and consent to the proposed IEP, it will be implemented as soon as the student enrolls in the public school.
If the parents agree with the IEP but choose not to accept it, they must acknowledge this decision by signing the IEP form with the following statement: "I agree that the District has offered my child a free appropriate public education (including appropriate special education services). However, I am voluntarily choosing to place my child in a private school."
Additionally, an Individualized Services Plan (ISP) will be created using the district ISP form, in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
