Mission Statement

The Sky Country community is committed to creating a culture that encourages each student to reach their full potential academically and socially. Teachers provide challenging lessons reflecting current research, best practices, and high expectations.  Sky Country Elementary is a school that takes pride in maintaining a student-focus for all activities and programs. Teachers develop connections between life experiences and the curriculum. Sky Country stakeholders work to develop the social, emotional, and physical well-being of all students.

Sky Country School opened to students in September of 1984 in an unincorporated area of Riverside County called Mira Loma.  It is one of 17 elementary schools in the Jurupa Unified School District, a semi-rural community that includes horse trails and small parks.  Of 579 students, 70% are Hispanic and 29% white and 1% other.  The English Learner population is currently 172, or 30% of our enrollment, and the Socio-Economically Disadvantaged population is 60% .  All of our teachers are either CLAD, BCLAD, or SDAIE certified and meet the NCLB criteria of Highly Qualified.  We serve 33 GATE students and six teachers have GATE certification.  Sky Country earned the honor of being named a 2010 California Distinguished School. This honor was earned due to our narrowing of the achievement gap between our significant sub-groups.
