Principal's Message

Dear Peralta Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year at Peralta Elementary.  My name is Melinda Schlosser, and I am excited to continue to be the Principal at Peralta Elementary School.
At Peralta Elementary School we want all students to achieve success.  The best way to ensure this happens is to have students at school every day.  It is our expectation that students miss no more than 9 days per school year, and hopefully much less than that.  Every day missed is a lost learning opportunity that can never be recovered.
We are excited to share many opportunities for growth, exploration, and collaboration as students embark on the journey of the year ahead. We will embrace a mindset to accelerate learning and partner with staff, families, and the community to help our students succeed and build toward a strong and bright future. I know that through our hard work and support for one another, this year will be a success.
I am committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all students and providing supportive systems to assure they are met. Teachers will continue to collaborate around building instruction of the Common Core Standards and communicate with you regarding student progress, so necessary intervention and enrichment can be offered. As Peralta Pandas, we will also continue to build our Positive Behavior/Social Emotional Learning Program to ensure we guide students with skills as well as grace, patience, and understanding upon transitioning back to in-person instruction.
Peralta students in grades K-6 will build their technology skills using Chromebooks daily as a way to enhance their learning, connect with their world, and meet 21st-century expectations for success. Students in Grades 2-6 will take the devices home nightly to extend their learning opportunities beyond the school day. It will be essential to remind students to use these tools for academic support, balance their time on and off technology, and to demonstrate digital citizenship when using their tech tools. We will further enhance the rigor of instruction by continuing to take steps forward as an AVID Elementary School. Our school culture and instructional practices will emphasize preparing students to be college and career ready; assisting students in the development of organizational & notetaking skills as well as other strategies; guiding them along the road towards a successful future.
Great success at any school does not happen without a team effort. We invite you to become an active participant in our school community. Please join our school Parent Teacher Association and help make decisions for our school.  Throughout the year, you will be receiving announcements of upcoming meetings, parent-teacher conferences, events, etc.  I ask that you please be a part of the Peralta school community and that you support our school by attending these important functions. As partners, we share the responsibility for student success and want you to know that we will do our best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child's learning by ensuring that he/she:
1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day's learning experience
2) Completes any/all homework assignments given by teachers
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
4) Practices basic math facts as a foundation for learning
5) Understands the importance of maintaining good character and integrity at all times .
We will make communication a top priority and invite you to partner with us as we grow stronger together. Please sign up with your student's teacher to participate in class dojo, sign up for Parent Square and look for Peralta information on our website and social media to stay up to date.  I look forward to working with our staff, parents, and students in the year ahead.  The Peralta staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. Thank you for your support and I look forward to meeting you.  If you have any questions, please contact the school at (951) 222-7701 during our regular office hours.
Sincerely,
Melinda Schlosser
