A Message from Dr. Hansen
Welcome Letter 25-26 English
Welcome Letter 25-26 Spanish
Dear Jurupa Unified School District families:
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year!
I hope you had an enjoyable and restful summer break and that your students are ready for the new year. We have so much to look forward to this year, and we can’t wait to welcome our students back for a year filled with learning, friendships, and experiences they will remember for a lifetime. As a reminder, the first day of school for all JUSD students is Wednesday, August 6.
I know some families have concerns about the return to school this year, particularly in the wake of immigration enforcement activities that took place across Southern California this summer. I want to reassure our JUSD families that our schools remain welcoming, safe, and secure spaces for every student. Our district does not collect or ask for student immigration status. We also continue to follow all state and federal laws, including the California Values Act (SB 54). Immigration officers may not gain access to our campuses or students without a lawfully executed court order or warrant. JUSD
Board Policy 5145.13
outlines the district’s response to immigration enforcement. We have also included additional resources on our website (
jurupausd.org
). Click the Immigrant Family Resources button at the top of the page, or you may access the page at:

.
We are also working to enhance safety on our campuses. Thanks to our community’s support of the Measure V facilities bond measure, we will be able to continue improvements and modernizations across the district. That includes the addition of security cameras and emergency pull stations, upgraded fencing, and other measures to enhance school safety.
I also want you to be aware of a change this year to our district
cell phone policy (Board Policy 5131.8).
This revised policy is aligned to California’s
Assembly Bill 3216, the Phone-Free School Act
, and is meant to remove distractions that could impede students' learning and emotional well-being. You can learn more
here
.
Under the new policy, high school students are permitted to use cell phones and other mobile devices only during passing periods and at lunch. During class time, they must turn their devices off and put them away. Elementary and middle school students must silence or turn off their devices and put them away during the entire school day. There are some exceptions. For example, students can use their devices in the event of an emergency. Please be assured that you will be contacted by your school or the District if an emergency arises. If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to complete your Annual Information Update, ensuring that your child’s school has accurate emergency contact information on file.
Finally, I’d like to emphasize that every member of our JUSD team is here to serve our students and families. We truly care about our students and look forward to seeing them back at school on Wednesday, August 6, for another year of Learning Without Limits. Have a great year, JUSD!
Sincerely,
Trenton Hansen, PhD
Superintendent
