Principal's Message

Dear Rustic Lane Families and friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year at Rustic Lane Elementary and I am excited to share with you the many opportunities this year holds for challenging our students and connecting them with a variety of engaging learning experiences. As we look forward to the adventures ahead, I will cherish the opportunities to partner with staff, families, and the community to help our students succeed and build towards a strong and bright future.

I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our children. We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all students and providing supportive systems to assure they are met. Teachers will continue to collaborate and build instruction of the Common Core Standards and communicate with you regarding student progress, so necessary intervention and enrichment can be offered. As Rustic Lane Leopards, we will also continue to build our Positive Behavior Program through R.O.A.R., which stands for Respect, Ownership, Attitude, & Responsibility. With knowledge and practice of social skills to help students meet these expectations, success can be achieved by all. This year affords us the opportunity to embark on new adventures as well. To begin, Rustic Lane students in grades K-6 will be given Chromebooks to use daily as a way to enhance their learning, connect with their world, and meet 21st century expectations for success. Students in Grades 2-6 will take the devices home nightly to extend their learning opportunities beyond the school day. We will further enhance the rigor of instruction by continuing to take steps toward becoming an AVID Elementary. Our school culture and instructional practices will emphasize preparing students to be college and career ready; assisting students in the development of organizational & notetaking skills as well as other strategies; guiding them along the road towards a successful future. This year Rustic Lane staff and students will be "Going Above & Beyond, AVID Strong" on a mission towards college & career readiness for all students.

Great success at any school does not happen without a team effort. We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTO, as well as attending and supporting school events. Throughout the year, you will be receiving announcements of upcoming meetings, parent-teacher conferences, assemblies, etc.  I ask that you please be a part of the Rustic Lane school community and that you support our school by attending these important functions. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day's learning experience

2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers and gets his/her agenda signed nightly

3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills

4) Practices basic math facts and looks for examples of how math is a part of their world

5) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life

6) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject

7) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and to give his/her very best

8) Understands the importance of maintaining good character and integrity at all times

We will make communication a top priority and invite you to partner with us as we absolutely can grow stronger together.  I look forward to working with our remarkable staff, involved parents, and committed students in the year ahead.  The wonderful Rustic Lane staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting you.  If you have any questions, please contact the school at (951) 222-7837 during our regular office hours.

Sincerely,

Kristi Batchelder
