Good Afternoon JUSD Staff, Families, and Community:
California Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference this afternoon announcing that the counties currently on the County Monitoring List are mandated to open in a Distance Learning model. Riverside County is currently one of 32 California counties on the COVID-19 County Monitoring List. Schools will be permitted to reassess physically opening when their county is off the County Monitoring List for 14 consecutive days. When Riverside County reaches that point, our Board and Staff will continue to monitor local conditions to determine when it is safe and prudent to reopen our schools. The Governor stated, “We all prefer in-classroom instruction for all the obvious reasons, but only if it can be done safely."
At JUSD's Board meeting on July 6th, the Board of Education unanimously approved a Distance Learning model for all students. Governor Newsom's press conference and news release are in accordance with the Board's decision.
Jurupa Unified, per Governor Newsom's mandate and the unanimous Board decision, will begin school on August 6th utilizing a Distance Learning model. Instruction will be standards-based and rigorous. "Schools must provide meaningful instruction during this pandemic whether they're physically open or not," Newsom said.
