Principal's Message

Dear Granite Hill Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Granite Hill Elementary School. This school year, Granite Hill Elementary School has been welcoming students for 25 years! To those students and parents who are new to Granite Hill Elementary, we extend warm welcome and best wishes for an exciting and productive year in your new school. We hope that you will quickly feel at home.

This year we have a lot planned at Granite Hill!

Granite Hill Elementary School continues to implement AVID Elementary school wide. As an AVID Elementary School, we teach and practice skills that will prepare all students to be college and career ready. Teachers will explicitly teach and monitor organizational skills and strategies to prepare them to be successful. We will supply students with the organizational materials they need. Supplies include 2.5” binders, agendas, pocket pouches, and dividers for 3rd-6 th graders! This is over a $10 value for our students. Donations are appreciated to help us continue to support all students being organized for the 2017-18 school year!

In Jurupa Unified School District, EVERY student in grades 2-11 will continue to use Chromebooks at school and home. Part of your child's continued responsibility will be to take the Chromebook home every day to use and to charge it for the next day. Please make sure your child has a backpack that can securely carry a Chromebook. Students in grades 2-6 should return to school with a fully charged Chromebook. ALL students in grades Kindergarten and First Grade will each have a Chromebook to use in their classrooms each day. Granite Hill Elementary School will continue to implement a Positive Behavior Plan known as PBIS. The teachers will provide lessons on the proper behavior for every area of the campus. We will use following the slogan: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe!

In addition, this year our focus is improving attendance. A child cannot learn unless he/she is in class for instruction. Every child with Perfect Attendance for the year will earn a medal and attend Attendance BBQs. If a child is sick, an absence can be made up by attending Saturday School, if they are in grades 1-6.

Lastly, it is important that you become actively involved in your child's education. I hope you consider volunteering for PTA committees, school events, classroom activities, or other school committees such as School Site Council or the English Learner Advisory Committee.

I look forward to a terrific school year!

Warm regards,
Denise Hernandez
