Memo Mendez is a graduate of the University of Redlands and holds a M.A in Educational Administration from the University of California, Riverside. He has extensive experience in the field of education spanning more than three decades as a classroom teacher, administrator, and most recently, Supervisor of Teacher Education at the University of California, Riverside. Currently he is serving his second term as a Trustee on the Board of Education for the Jurupa Unified School District, and as an elected Delegate to the California School Boards Association. His passion for education dates back to the beginning of his career teaching 7th/8th Grade English and Social Studies, then later becoming Director of a Bilingual Title VII Program, principal of three elementary schools, and Director of Curriculum. Mr. Mendez has also served as a consultant in the field of Bilingual Education to the California Department of Education, Riverside County Office of Education, and San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.
In regards to organizations, Memo was instrumental in establishing the Riverside CABE Chapter, later becoming its president, and in the mid-1980s Director of Financial Affairs for the CABE State Board.
Each of his career roles as a middle school teacher, elementary school principal, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Categorical Programs, Supervisor of Teacher Education and Lecturer at the University of California Riverside, have provided him with a variety of venues to champion educational opportunities for all students and the value education has in the development of vibrant communities.
Memo was recognized as Administrator of the Year for the Jurupa Unified School District and the recipient of the California PTA Honorary Service Award. He has been featured in a short essay "Back to School", written by one of his former students at National University in a book entitled, Why I Teach: Inspirational Stories from Teachers Who Make a Difference by Esther Wright. He was also featured in the University of California Quarterly Publication,

Donna Johnston, Clerk

Donna Johnston has served as a Jurupa Uniﬁed Board Trustee since her appointment in August 2013, to ﬁll a vacancy on the board. Jurupa Valley voters elected Mrs. Johnston to a four-year term in November of 2014.
Mrs. Johnston, a retired legislative assistant to Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione, has a long record of public and community service. Currently, she serves as a YMCA executive board member, an alternate on Riverside Transit Agency Board, and a Jurupa Valley Rotarian. She served with Riverside County Sheriff's Department as a citizen patrol volunteer for 15 years. She was elected to the Jurupa Area Recreation and Parks District in 1992.
Mrs. Johnston's work experience has spanned the public and private sector. Beginning with her high school years in Newark, Delaware both part-time and then full-time with the Christina School District. She spent a year with a Federal Government agency in Washington D.C., ﬁve years with American Life Insurance Company in Wilmington, Delaware, and then was employed at C. Lloyd Johnson Company in Norfolk, Virginia where her husband was stationed in the Navy, before their move to Anaheim, California, and was employed by Basic Four Corporation in Irvine. She worked for temp agencies at local corporations in the early 1980's. In 1988/89, she and her husband Frank co-founded a family business. From 1995 until 2013, she was employed by Riverside County and retired after 18 years.
She and Frank moved to Jurupa Valley California in August, 1978, and are proud parents of three children. All three attended only Jurupa Uniﬁed schools, graduated from the District's Jurupa Valley High, all are college graduates and are in the workforce.
